The Mercantilists View on Trade In the 17th century a group of men (merchants, bankers, government officials, and philosophers) wrote essays on international trade that advocated an economic philosophy known as Mercantilism. In their view, a country becomes rich if it exports more than it imports. uAn International Business is any firm that engages in international trade or investment. Managing an international business is different than managing a domestic business: 1. Countries are different. 2. Problems are more complex. 3. Must work within government regulations. 4. Currency conversion presents unique problems. Each international trade transaction generates its own bill of exchange. The bill is drawn by the exporter and sent to the importer. Once the importer accepts the bill and returns it to the exporter, the importer is legally bound to make payment, and the bill is legal evidence of a contractual obligation for payment. Article # 1.
