How much oil does one well produce

They produce 2.6 million barrels of oil per day (BOPD), with 7 billion barrels in reserve. They produce about 1 billion barrels per year, with an after expense earning of approximately $40 per barrel. An average oil well in the United States of America, excluding Alaska and Hawaii, produces about 20 BOPD. Some wells produce in the thousands of BOPD. The production for each single new well ranges between 5 and 30 thousand barrels a day and platforms will be producing from somewhere between 6 to 20 of them These numbers are for floating offshore platforms. For fixed (shallow water) platforms, it ranges from 30 thousand to 300 thousand (and also drops with reservoir depletion).

Most U.S. oil and natural gas production comes from wells that produce between 100 barrels of oil equivalent per day (BOE/d) and 3,200 BOE/d (Figures 3 and 4, respectively). Interestingly, the share of U.S. oil and natural gas wells producing less than 15 BOE/d has remained surprisingly steady at about 80% from 2000 through 2018 (Figure 1). The oil is forced out of the well from the natural pressure present. Once the primary production hits its limit, that's when drillers go back into the well and use enhanced oil recovery techniques to boost production. Some of the more infamous examples include the Cantarell oil field in Mexico. At one point, it was the world's second-largest. Since over half of wells produce both oil and natural gas, the target resource is not often a major factor in determining the cost of a well. Wells that target oil and natural gas generally use the same equipment. With gas wells, however, producers need to pay more attention to the pressure created by the gas.
